Jan J. Stepan, MD is Professor of Biochemistry at the Charles University Faculty of Medicine, Prague, Czech Republic. He is currently Senior Researcher at the Institute of Rheumatology, Prague.
Dr. Stepan received his postgraduate training in Endocrinology at the Laboratory for Endocrinology and Metabolism, Charles University Prague. He also received training in Biochemistry at the University of Jena and Charite Berlin, Germany, and the Free University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and training in Bone Diseases at The Kennedy Institute of Reumatology, London, U.K., and University of Loma Linda, California.
He belongs to several professional societies including the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, The European Foundation for Osteoporosis which he serves as member of the Scientific Advisory Board, International Bone and Mineral Society, European Calcified Tissues Society (board member 2000–2007), and a number of Czech professional societies including the Czech Learned Society (member of Board 2002–6); Czech Medical Academy, and Society for Metablic Bone Diseases (member of Board, 1998–2006). He served as Chair of the LOC of the European Calcified Tissues Society Meetings 2006 and 2014. He serves as member of the Editorial Board, Osteoporosis International.
Dr.Stepan´s major research interests are related to the clinical investigation of metabolic bone diseases, particularly osteoporosis and quality of bone. In these areas, he has published over 200 peer reviewed papers (citations over 6 000).
